Damp, Falling Fiberglass Batts Insulation
Whoever installed fiberglass batts insulation into this crawlspace committed one of the most common mistakes in home energy. This is because fiberglass batts are only an efficient insulator when it is installed perfectly fluffed in an enclosed space. This is not an enclosed space. This means moist air from inside the crawlspace can travel through and moisture is absorbed by the fiberglass, often causing mold.
Exposed Entrance to Crawl Space
The entrance to this home's crawl space was completely exposed to the outside climate, making it possible for any dirt, severe weather, critters, etc. to enter the space.
Everlast Crawl Space Door Installed
Our team installed our trusted Everlast crawlspace door at the entrance in order to protect the space from pollutants.
Insufficient Barrier above Dirt Floor
This crawlspace originally had a dirt floor the homeowners covered with a plastic tarp, which is the equivalent of placing a stretchy black trash bag material everywhere. This is not protected against tears and is improperly sealed along the edges. This does not prevent moisture from the dirt seeping into the room.
Cold, Dirty Crawl Space
The tarp originally covering the dirt floor was lifting and allowing dirt from beneath it to litter the entire basement, promoting the growth of mold, as well as creating and retaining puddles when it rains. This is not suitable for using the space as storage and promotes uncomfortable and unhealthy living spaces.
Drainage Matting, Terra Block, and CleanSpace
Pictured here is another shot of our CleanSpace Vapor Barrier. Under this layer is our TerraBlock insulation layer meant to be used in a crawlspace with our drainage matting underneath to give water from any leakage a place to go. This is crucial for a dirt floor. With this grouping of three layers, the crawlspace dirt floor is waterproofed, insulated, and directs any water from rain away from the home or into the dirt.
