Attic Insulation Photo Album: Home Energy Specialist Locates Insulation No-No's in Killingworth, CT Home
Maura M. called Dr Energy Saver of Connecticut with concerns of her attic being poorly insulated and high heating and cooling costs. Our certified home energy specialist, Keith Saunders, visited the home and documented a series of big no-no’s for energy inefficient homes. Our foreman Rudy Abel later removed all the old insulation and installed upgraded air sealing, insulation, window inserts, a hatch cover, etc. and now our homeowner is living in a much more comfortable home with much lower heating and cooling costs!
Check out the photos Keith took of big mistakes past contractors made! Now, maybe you can spot similar ones in your home…

Poorly Installed and Poorly Insulating Fiberglass Batts - Inside Joists
Fiberglass insulation is the most common insulation for homes, but it is surprising how many contractors install the batts poorly. The most common mistake is leaving large air gaps within the wall cavities. This renders any insulation useless and allows air and moisture to run directly through the walls and out of your home. This house had warm, moist air condensing in the walls causing mold to grow within the wall cavities thanks to poorly installed insulation and air gaps.
Dr. Energy Saver of Connecticut recommends densely packed with our TruSoft cellulose or the ProWool rock-wool treatment. Either of these can fill the leftover space around the existing insulation, which will dramatically improve the R-value of your walls.
