Moldy Vent
It's easy for moisture-laden air to find its way into an unsealed crawl space or basement. Once there, it cools and condenses - leading to ruined fiberglass insulation, unhealthy mold, and potentially rotted wood.
Foam Board Insulation
This old foam board insulation did not stop humid air from flowing into the crawlspace and causing mold problems. If the crawlspace isn't air sealed, it won't stay dry!
Crawlpace Access Door
Another place for damp air to enter is through the crawlspace door. Without an airtight seal between the door and house, air and moisture pass freely through.
Closed-Cell Spray Foam
To air seal and insulate this home, we used a two-component expanding foam on the walls. This foam expands to fill gaps and cracks and cures into a hard, smooth surface. Closed-cell spray foam acts as an effective moisture barrier. Its ability to block moisture while also providing air sealing and high R-value is a great advantage in this home.
CleanSpace Vapor Barrier
On the floor, we installed the CleanSpace vapor barrier. This durable, bright white crawl space liner prevents water vapor and humidity from passing through, allowing the crawl space to stay dry and mold-free. And with its mold-resistant additive "UltraFresh", CleanSpace will never support mildew or mold growth on its surface.
