Air Sealing
Heat can find its way out of the home through a wide variety of gaps, cracks, and holes in all parts of the house, but especially in the attic. For many air sealing tasks, Dr. Energy Saver Of Connecticut recommends two-part foam. The mixture leaves the nozzle in liquid form but expands rapidly to fill and adhere inside cracks and gaps. As it cures, the foam will create a barrier that is both airtight and effective as insulation.
Attic Storage
Having attic storage room was important to this homeowner. Therefore, instead of blowing cellulose in the whole attic, we used our SilverGlo rigid foam insulation on a section of the floors and covered it with Oriented strand board (OSB). SilverGlo insulation board is a unique type of foam insulation that sets a new standard in this insulation category. When SilverGlo boards are made, they are infused with graphite powder to improve insulating value. Each board also has a reflective coating that acts as an effective radiant barrier.
SilverGlo Insulation
The SilverGlo insulation that's installed beneath the wood floors has many benefits. Unlike fiberglass batts, which can compress, lose R-value and even fall out of place, SilverGlo rigid foam stays put once it's installed. It creates a flat, smooth thermal barrier that retains its original R-value forever.
Attic Hatch Cover Insulation
The attic hatchway, sometimes called a "scuttle", needs to be air-sealed and insulated, as well, in order to prevent energy loss and compromised comfort. We used SilverGlo rigid foam insulation and one-part expanding foam to complete the job.
