Raise YOUR Roof: Gable Roof Edition

It's November, and you know what they often say; you should be thankful for the roof you have over your head. And while it is a blessing to have a roof over your head, sometimes your roof is the reason for a lot of trouble in your house. Often, many attics in homes are filled to the brim, as they are often used as storage areas. Heat rises, and in an uninsulated home, a quarter of the heat is lost through your roof. But often, families are confused as to what insulation is best based on the type of roof they have. This is where our new blog series, Raise The Roof, comes in! We are here to tell you all about insulation, and what fits best for your ROOF. Today, we'll be discussing gable roofs, and how you can insulate yours the best you can!

First, what is a gable roof? A gable roof is defined as a roof sloping downward in two parts at an angle from a central ridge. It can also be described as a home with a roof shaped as an inverted v, or a ridged, peaked, or saddled roof. While gabled roofs typically allow more ventilation, this also allows for your paid heated and cooled air to leak through a lot more frequently. In order for this to stop, proper insulation must be installed.

The best way to insulate a gabled roof is with our SuperAttic™ system, which utilizes our SilverGlo™ rigid foam insulation panels. The foam boards are easy to cut and install, ultimately reducing the time it takes for your insulation job to be completed. SilverGlo™ looks and acts differently than most forms of rigid foam insulation. When SilverGlo™ boards are made, they are infused with graphite powder to improve insulating value. Each board also has a reflective coating that acts as an effective radiant barrier.  By fastening these panels to the underside of the rafters and against the gable-end framing, we create a continuous thermal barrier that also eliminates air leakage between interior and exterior. No longer will you have to worry about the air you pay for going to waste!
