The Calm Before The Cold: Preparing For Winter!

The Calm Before The Cold Preparing For Winter - Image 1

"Cold, snowy, and rainy."

"Colder than normal temperatures."

"Teeth biting cold."

These are just some things the 2017 Farmer's Almanac has been saying about the cold that will be wreaking havoc on the Northeast this coming winter. While these words might scare you, what is scarier is not having the proper tools to get you through those frigid temperatures! We here at Dr. Energy Saver Connecticut want to share some tips with you that'll turn your house from cold to comfortable in no time!

Reduce your air leaks by air sealing!

Air sealing is the process of sealing leaks in a home's building envelope to limit the amount of air that leaks out of and into the house. Conditioned (heated or cooled) interior air leaking out of the house is called exfiltration. Outside air that leaks in is called infiltration. By air sealing your basement, attic, or wall ducts, infiltration and exfiltration are less likely to occur, and your energy bills are more likely to go down, and your home is much more likely to feel comfortable during the very cold winter days!

Remove your old insulation!

A lot of homes have very old, or no insulation at all! We work with you to find insulation that best suits you and your energy needs. According to Dept. of Energy research, most houses have too little attic insulation and too many air leaks that allow heated air to escape into the attic. Upgrading attic air sealing and insulation according to DOE recommendations can cut your heating bill by as much as 40%.

Seal and insulate your duct work!

Leaky, uninsulated ducts are common and can decrease your heating system’s efficiency by 20%. Duct sealing and duct insulation will put an end to this inefficiency and get heat delivered to your living space more quickly.

All of these things can be done by Dr. Energy Saver of Connecticut quickly and efficiently by our amazing team! Call today so we can work on getting you a FREE energy audit, and making your home as warm as possible before winter hits!
